Nursery and more….

Here are just a few things that I purchased on line for the nursery and the baby.

The curtains are from Pottery Barn, I just fell in love with them and I plan to decorate his nursery around these curtains. They keep the outside noise level down and they are perfect for nap time during the middle of the day when the sun is at its peak.  They also don’t look strictly for a nursery which is a good thing because I can use these for at least 5 more years to come as he grows into a little boy. The only thing is that I cannot find a decent navy blue and white crib bedding set under $200 online anywhere.

His nursery has white furniture, so I chose this white changing table. Since the curtains are dark blue, white furniture is going to balance out the color perfectly.
The Diaper Genie II.  A friend of mine swears by this one to keep the odor at ease.
There’s so many nipple creams out there but I chose to try this one out first. It’s only 2 oz. so its not a big deal if it doesn’t work. What are your recommendations?

I wanted to get your opinion on the breast pumps. I ended up getting the one shown above because it had great reviews and it was only $38 but I also saw other pumping systems for $200. Huge price difference so I’m hoping it works just as well.

I sat in one of these a few weeks back and it HAS to be the most comfortable chair ever. Perfect for breast-feeding and rocking my baby to sleep.

My friends little boy uses the Vulli Sophie Giraffe teether.  She told me that this is the only teether that he loves because it completely takes any discomfort from his growing teeth.

Last but not least, this was the highest rated changing pad at Amazon with the perfect contour and strap to keep the baby safe. It’s also waterproof so it great if you have a boy because you can wipe of his pee with out damaging the changing pad.

  10. Aw so cute I love the curtain idea like you dais you can use those for a few years.

  11. Dulce, what kind of pump is that? Are you sure the price is not just for the pumping bra? I used the Medela Pump In Style, and it was great!

I love the curtains, Pottery Barn Kids has the cutest nursery stuff, it's where I bought all of my daughter's things except the furniture.

I also wanted to ask you if you've ever heard of Amazon Mom? It's a program on Amazon for moms you get a prime membership free when you sign up, which means free shipping, or very, very cheap 2 or 1 day shipping. The more stuff you buy, the longer your Prime membership extends. You should check it out. We order our diapers and wipes from there.

I like the curtains! super cute. The Diaper Genie is great, but every refill bags are like $5 a pop. It gets quite expensive. I bought the diaper champ and it kept the odor in just like the diaper genie. The difference: you can use any trash bag in there so you don't have to pay for each refill. Plus it's all white with blue handle.

I had the same rocker. Colors & all. It will last you a good couple of years but the arms broke off after using it for a while. that diaper chaging pad is good too. I used it also. I give it 5 stars…

  13. I breastfed my son for 6 months. I was tight on a budget & did not want to spend a lot on a breast pump but getting the Medela system was the best purchase of my life. Trust me, you will not want to compromise when it comes to pumping. I had the dual breast electric pump that packed neatly into a backpack. It was just perfect! Good luck & congrats!

  14. Reyna makes a good point about the Diaper Genie.. I also went with the Diaper Champ, and 2.5 years later, it still doesn't smell.. It probably helps that we never put poopy diapers in there, we put those straight into the garbage barrels in the garage.

  15. I think you're going to be a great mom!
good luck with everything dulce, and congratulations!

Must be so exciting to prepare the room for your baby =)
You should buy him a bouncer thing that you hang from like the middle of a door so when he's a little bigger he can excercise his little legs…check out "Shaytards" in youtube…they just had a cute baby boy and the baby enjoys that lil bouncer! =)

  17. i hope youre getting an electrical pump. the manual ones just dont compare to a dual electric breast pump.

  18. everything looks amazing sweetie :)

  19. I love those curtains! You're going for a celestial theme. My cousin hated her diaper genie, but I'm still going to get one for my future kids. Worth a try…You gotta put those diapers somewhere!

BTW, Dulce and lovely girls, please check the MTV Style page on Friday. I was chosen as a Style Blogger of the Week. :) Yay!!!

  21. Hey Dulce! Congratulations on the baby! Motherhood is so amazing and rewarding. =) I work as a breastfeeding educator and would really suggest that you splurge on a good pump! Medela and Ameda are good pumps and have heard great reviews on both. I personally used a Medela as I breastfed my daughter for 8 months and loved it! As far as nipple cream goes the one that I give to my clients is Lansinoh. It is highly reccomended by Lactation Consultants. Well congratukations once again and good luck with everything! =) Btw still looking gorgeous as always!! =)

  22. aahh! so exciting to hear more about the arrival of the baby! i love all of your finds! as for baby bedding, you should check out http://www.landofnod.com . they have the cutest bedding!

  23. Medela has best breast pump and is worth the money.

  24. Congrats. Well about the Breast Pump. It depends. Do you plan to exclusively just breastfeed/pump?

In my experience you need a good double pump. I bought a medlea pump and it was great but it was a single pump and let me tell you after getting adjusted to life as a mom to a new born and trying hard to breast feed and pump… pumping on one side then having to pump again for liek 20 mins on the other was hella agitating. I felt like a damn cow and when i was finally done pumping ..I had a short break and then pumped again omg.

Breast feeding is hard work. well for me it was. I hear some people have an easy time and it comes naturally to them and their babies are perfect and breast feed fine. but that wasnt the case for me. I almost gave up liek 100 times. It was really really really hard work. But well worth it.

If i could o it all over again I would invest in the best pump that I could afford that was a double pump. ALso if you do plan to breast feed look into getting a nipple shield before you have the baby. They are a life saver. Because at first lets just say it can really get painful and sore at the beginning. The nipple shields will be a lifesaver when you can't take the pain. Although you shouldn't use them regular for feedings. anywho sorry for all the mumbo jumbo.. I praise anyone who is willing to try to BF or pump. I think it's a great thing.. and I had a hard time doing it but I did it for a few months. wish I would of did it longer. IF i get another chance I plan on taking some of the advice im giving you here lol.

    Good luck chica.

You can get some good info on breastfeeding/pumping here.

  25. Hello Dulce. I like reading your post about the baby since I am pregnant too. If I may, it's not for everyone, have you looked into cloth diapering? I did disposable with my other kids and with my current pregnancy found out about "modern" cloth diapering. I am so in love with the cute diapers available. My favorite youtube channel is clothdiaperchannel. There are other mothers who have channels and great reviews. Check it out.

  26. elisabella555 says:

At first when reading your blog I was shocked that at only 22 years of age you were deciding to have a baby. I am still shocked that you would be wanting to throw your young adult life away at such an early age, but I digress. I do think it is wonderful that you are deciding to breast feed and are very comfortable talking about it. At least you are promoting one good thing about having a child so young.

  31. Jessica Alter says:

    Dulce,

Many places rent the breast pump itself (for a daily or weekly fee) and you merely purchase the attachments that you use against your skin. Because of the low price tag you may have only purchased the accessories.

If I were you I'd search your location and the phrase "breast pump rentals" online and then call around. You'll be saving yourself money.

    Madella is the best brand.

  32. Aww looks like the nursery will turn out great!

As for the bedding, I saw one in diapers.com with little turtles, and the one your friend mentioned above with the little elephant from JcPenny. If they dont work for you, maybe try buying seperately. Plus it will probably turn out cheaper that way :)

& the breast pump? I say go ahead and spend whatever you have to. I baught a cheap manual one and really regret it :(

  33. I'm so happy yet so jealous. My husband and I have been trying to conceive since October and nothing yet. On another note congrats you will make a wonderful mother.

  34. debbie_lopez84 says:

congrats dulce! you're gonna make a great mommy! about the pump, with my 1st baby i bought a $60 evenflow one and let me tell you, it sucked! for all the work you do, you dont get much out of it. with my 2nd, i rented a pump. i went to a breastfeeding specialty store, but you can also ask your hospital. i don't any store names out in cali, but out here in nebraska (i miss my cali :( lol) its called "milk works" sometimes, depending on your insurance, they might cover the rental fee. it can be a little pricey, but its worth it trust me. but i do reccomend, what my oldest daughter called, a boobie holder. like in the picture so it can hold the cup while your hands are free.
anyway, sorry it was so long. good luck!

  37. Dulce I nursed both of my babies and as far as pumps I will tell you…the best ones are the hospital grade ones by MEDELA. Check your hospital or local social services. I live in NC. When I had my daughter 5 years ago the Social Services had a program where they loaned you a hospital pump for like 4-6 weeks at a time. When I had my son 2 years ago the hospital had that program, but it wasn't free, it was maybe $50 a month. Only reason I suggest that is because you don't wanna put money into a pump like that, that you won't use as often as you may think. HOpe this helps! But if you know are gonna nurse future kids, I'd say go for the purchase, otherwise, try renting…because just like many women who say they will nurse but don't or can't; it's the same thing with a pump, you don't know if it's gonna work with ya.

i've tried 3 different pumps–the bottle company that starts with an A from Target (can't recall the name right now, Advent i think but not sure) that was pricey and wasn't worth a thing. I had a manual pump that was given to me from the hospital (awesome and free!) and last is the Medela hospital dual pump and that was AMAZING!!)

Sorry for the long comment, but I hope it helps!!! Take care!

  38. oh and i wanted to add, don't stress about the pump right away anyway, bc you don't want to introduce it to Baby Izek until he's used to nursing from you, it will cause nipple confusion! I wouldn't suggest trying to introduce the bottle until a week or so before you're going back to school/work. take care!

Make sure you get the Fisher Price Newborn Rocker and Sleeper. Many babies have reflux, including mine, and it was the only thing he slept on for the first few months. If you read the amazing reviews on Amazon, you'll know how invaluable it will be for you.

    BeautyLogicBlog

  41. beautylogicblog says:

Also, Medela makes the best pumps. I used my medela for a while. However, I wouldn't introduce pumping for at least until he's about a month old. It can get confusing for him.

    BeautyLogicBlog

  42. I am so excited for you. The drapes are so cute. Will they block out enough light though? I'd get black out shades too. It helps the baby sleep better when it's completely dark in the room. Did you get a video monitor yet? I don't think that is the price for the pump. I think it's for the bra. Which by the way I have one similar and I love it! Did you get a nursing cover yet? As far as the pump, you could always rent one at your lactation center at your hospital. You should check them out. Plus it's best to have them measure you for a nursing bra versus places like Motherhood Maternity. I always got sized wrong there. Don't forget to buy him some night gowns too. You don't want to have to fidget with buttons during the middle of the night. Its so much easier to change diapers this way. Oh for a baby carrier, definitely get an Ergo Baby! Definitely worth the money. Don't bother with a Bjorn. Those are just some things to think about before the baby gets here.

  43. That's not a pumping system.. it's only the flowery tube top that will let you pump hands free.

  44. I forgot to mention, depending on how much you will be pumping you will want to invest in a pump. You can always rent one from the hospital, till you decide if breastfeeding is trully for you. I bought a single handheld one first and when I went back to work I invested in the Medela freestyle. Its hands free, clips on to your bra and works great. True, it was expensive but in reality, it was soooo worth it. Good luck

  45. mymakeupobsession says:

I am so glad that you are breastfeeding and not scared to blog about it!!…so many girls are embarassed to talk about it but it's all about the baby now!!:) What about red and white bedding? It could be like an American/army themed room. BTW….I used Lansinoh nipple cream…I found it was the best. DULCE….JUST MAKE IT THROUGH THE FIRST MONTH SO THAT YOUR NIPPLES "TOUGHEN" UP AND THEN IT IS SMOOTH SAILING FROM THERE!! Good luck…

  46. amochamommy says:

Breastfeeding is great! It was hard work for me in the beginning but if you stick it out, it gets a lot easier and comfortable. I exclusively breastfeed via pumping because of circumstances… but I have been using the Medela Pump In Style every day about 6 times a day for 5 1/2 months straight (and counting) and I love it! I hope the pump that you bought works well for you too.

I rocked my son to sleep as an infant and he WOULD NOT go to sleep unless he was rocked until the age of about 2 1/2. It really is a pain to HAVE to do it every night, so I just felt I had to put it out there, DON'T GET HIM USE TO IT!!! LOL ;)

Hopefully you can find something :) :) and good luck to you and your new family I wish you the best and for a healthy delivery :) :)

My midwife told me to rub some milk around the nipple when baby was done feeding. Breast milk is very moisturizing. Have you taken any classes like Hypnobabies or hypnobirthing. The worst thing you can do now is not do your research. Be prepared and understand that Dr's are not trying to help you. Hospitals are a business so your comfort and best interest is not a priority. Watch "the business of being born" great documentary about birth. I made a vlog about natural birth so you can check it out if you have a chance. 58. Hey Dulce…COngrats on your pregnancy..what a wonderful gift and blessing!! Well I know you said you have had so problems finding bedding to match your curtains…check overstock.com. They have some sets there that I think would go cute with the curtains especially the "when I grow up set" and the "classic sports set". And being a mother of two I must say I also would go for a more expensive pump there is a major differnce….however the hand pump the give you at the hospital is great for travel on the go or bedside pumping if you dont feel like hooking up an electric pump. I personally used an ameda breast pump and I loved it..very easy to clean and handle!!! Good luck with everthing..I hope this helps!! From a mother to a mother!!! <3 Kimberlee

I can't believe Izek is nearly here! You're baby is going to be internet famous, haha.

As for bedding, you seem pretty good around a sewing machine. Why don't you make one yourself? You can pick the colours and prints all by yourself! Plus, I find making stuff by myself is super rewarding, and it makes me proud every time I see myself or someone else using it.

Advent is a good breast pump but I only used it like once lol. I breastfeed all four of my children (number 4 is 3 1/2 months) until about a year and a half and you will not regret it!! The bonding experience is AMAZING.

If your baby latches on right then you won't need any cream for your nipples but if they do get sore best thing is just to dab 3tbs of vingear and a cup of water on your nipples and just let air dry after feeding.

Gliders are AMAZING also, so glad that your going the natural way and god willing your birth will go smoothly!!

  69. We NEVER used a diaper genie. But, if you are super organized and have the time to use it, I'm sure it's great. However, a trashcan with a lid works the exact same. Breastfed babies diapers don't smell anyways- LOL

Try and bring a bag, or box or somthing with you to the hospital if you want to keep the scissors used from cutting the umbilical cord, the ID card from the bassinet, the ID bracelets, etc.. Just a tip!
    Good luck!!

You must know how hard it is to find tops that are still cute while your pregnant! I too am a petite woman who is pregnant. I did not have any stretch marks in my first pregnancy until the last week!! So be extra cautious because I thought I was off the hook! 77. Cute curtains!! We have a Sophie and my little guy loved her when he was smaller! If you are going to be breastfeeding for a while i would higly suggest going with a more expensive pump. I used the Medela Pump In Style and LOVED it! I went back to work and pumped 3x a day with that pump for 10 months and could not have done it without it! Good luck!!

  78. During my sister in law's first pregnancy, she got a breast pump for around 40 bucks and it was a complete nightmare. She was really uncomfortable and always in pain. For her second pregnancy, she invested in an expensive breast pump and it is awesome! She is a lot more comfortable and the pain is not much either. My suggestion, if you will be using a breast pump, get a good one. You will thank yourself later for this decision. Congrats on the pregnancy and hope everything goes well with the delivery. Love your videos…God bless you and your family.

i tried the manual and the electric pump and i felt uncomfortable with the electric pump. once i got the hang of it, i preferred the manual pump. happy days to you.

  93. nessaacakes says:

Im currentl breastfeeding, and working. I say go with the medela pump in style bag or freestlye. Worth the money! And saves time. goodluck!

  94. nessaacakes says:

OH ORGANIC Olive Oil for the nipples. Lactation consultant recomended it to me. Works great! If your very serious about BFing. MAke sure you meet with a consutant before you go into labor. Some girls on youtube do pregnacy blogs week by week. Breastfeeding?pumping plans usually towards the ends of there journeys.. Theres alot to it, but its a great thing.

Hola Dulce! Me encantan tus videos:) Congratulations on baby Izek and your new home! Decorating the nursery is such an exciting and emotional time! You can't go wrong with classic navy and white, however I would recommend perhaps adding some visual interest using a non-patterned crib set. Perhaps adding contrast with a pale yellow or red would pop nicely. I am an interior decorator and just recently designed a sophisticated safari theme nursery for a baby boy, I had such much fun on that project please let me know if you have any questions, I'd be glad to help:)

  99. Hi! I use an Amber Teething Necklace for my son and I swear by it! You can get it off of Amazon.com. It makes life so much easier for him. Also I wanted to let you know about the La Leche League, here's their web address: http://www.llli.org/. If you have any questions about breast feeding this is the place to go. I am so happy for you and your husband. The fact that your nursing brings such joy to my heart! Your gonna be a great mom!

  106. Congratulations Dulce!

I HAVE A HUUUUUUUUGE QUESTION. and I NEED YOUR HELP.

I know you love make up brushes, and I really want your honest opinion on which brushes you'd recommend hands down.
I'm looking for very soft, durable, price/quality match brushes. There are so many to choose from I don't know where to start. I know you've tried them all.
Out of these, what are your favorites and least favorites?
Sigma, Bobbi brown, Mac, Sonia Kashuk. Or do you have any other brands that you'd recommend?

I hope you can help me with this!
Thank you Dulce, you're gorgeous as always. good luck with everything.

Congratulations on your pregnancy dulce! My daugter is 19 months old, and I am still breastfeeding her, will continue until she is two, personally I would invest in a good breast pump if you plan to breast feed for the minimum 6 months that doc's recommend, I tried the cheap ones before and they were just slow… no good! I invested in one that was $150, and then purchase the Madella pump in style, huge difference!

I hate to break it to you but the "pump" in the photo is not a pump at all, it's just a pumping bra. You can spend 1K at F21 but not more than 38.00 on a decent pump for your newborn? Boy are you in for a rude awakening when that baby comes! Best of luck to you and may you learn that life is more than just about dressing up and buying clothes everyday.

  111. I've been following your youtube channel, blog and follow you on twitter for a couple months now. I have fallen in love with you, your so beautiful and talented. thank you for your recipes ;-)

  115. get MEDELA pump in style. don't go cheap-o on pumps! haha i've been exclusively pumping for almost a year it' been hard but worth it! If you are going to breast feed you might not need a diaper genie because BFed babies poop generally don't smell so horrible. Make sure you get a BoPPY. Also NURSING PADS, you will be leaking everywhere. If you are going to use bottles try DR. Brown's or AVENT. Also, while breastfeeding you might leak from the other side and you should try the MILK SAVER so the breastmilk doesn't just get wasted.
If you are interested get Nursing Bras from Target they are more affordable than the Medela ones. You might consider a nursing bra or sports bra at night, because like I mentioned you could leak all over your bed at night.
on a side note, your baby is going to have boogers so try using Simply Saline and taking it out w/a bulb or you can use the NOse Frida device. I'm saying this because we were hyped up about the nursery and gear but we didn't get the essentials until after when in reality the essentials are the most important.

  116. hey. congradulations on the baby!!
i was wondering if you can tell me where you got the mama mio lotion and oils and when did you start using them? im curious because i dont want any stretch marks. if you can please get back to me i will appreciate it, if you have the time.

    thank you.

  138. Agree with other posters who say SPLURGE on the good electric double breast pump. I pumped for 9 (looooong) months with my daughter and would not have lasted so long without my Medela Pump in Style!

Also, if you're having bfeeding challenges in the early days, some lactation consultants recommend renting a hospital grade pump for the first month to establish your supply. I did and it was amazing. Definitely look into it!

Love the diaper genie myself! Thanks to the poster who talked about Amazon moms, I'm going to look into that.

    Best of luck!

I just wanted to say congratulations on your and our hubbys son. I am so glad that you are deciding to breastfeed. I just had a boy 10 months ago and he had only had breast milk (never formula). Advice: while you are in the hospital work with the lactation consultant to make you are comfortable with it and dont be afraid to call them when you are home. It was uncomfortable /painful for about the first 6 weeks but now we are both pros and I am so glad that I stuck with it. Good Luck and Have fun. God Bless you fabulous mami!!

  143. definitely the diaper genie! it has helped my daughters room not smell like poop! just make sure u really put the diaper all the way down and don't leave a bit of opening cuz if you do the smell seeps through. lol. congratulations! its gonna be tough the first few days or months but its all totally worth it! it'll get easier as they get older! god bless!
