Hi babes! Now that we’ve celebrated Thanksgiving in the U.S., the holidays are upon us. Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza or another holiday, this season is always a good time to reconnect with friends and family near and far. Many of you may have already taken advantage of deals, shopping and giving back on Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Giving Tuesday.
For me, in addition to gifts you can purchase, I always take time to make gifts from the heart. Whether that means a DIY gift project with Izek for my husband Jesse or baking cookies from scratch for my family members, I like to focus on delivering cheer to my loved ones.
This year, with the help of the United States Postal Service, I am delivering cheer via homemade cookies to my Grandmother in the Chicago area and my mother and father in my hometown outside of Los Angeles. The Postal Service has made it so easy to ship homemade gifts (and other gifts) to friends and family with their easy to use holiday boxes and packaging.
My Abuelita (grandmother) is someone I love to visit whenever I can. This year with the move, we didn’t have much time to spend with her. To honor her and my connection to traditions, for the holidays I made her favorite Mexican Wedding Cookies from a family recipe she passed down to me.
For my mom and dad, I really wanted to surprise them with their favorite Chocolate Chip Cookies plus decorated cookies that Izek personalized. I was super excited and grateful to be baking these gifts in my new home and kitchen. Izek loved decorating the traditional sugar and gingerbread cookies with me so it’s also a great way to connect with him and teach him about gift giving via our shared love of baking.
What are your favorite cookie recipes? Do you also have a DIY gift project for family members? One of my mommy friends also suggested a cookie exchange/party instead of gifts. What are some of the other ways you go about delivering cheer during the holidays to friends and family near and far? I would love to hear from you and see some of your homemade creations. Be sure to share your ideas below or via my social channels and include the full recipe and any pictures when you post.
Thanks again to all of you for your support…I wish I could literally send you ALL some homemade cookies with the Postal Service’s help, but hope you will at least take my suggestions on delivering cheer to your loved ones!
