DIY: Coffee Scrub

Exfoliating the skin is a very important step in my skincare routine. My primary use for it is to get rid of dead skin cells that make my skin appear dull and lifeless. Not to mention how awful my makeup can look when I don’t exfoliate. That’s usually a telltale sign that I need to freshen up my skin.  Exfoliating the skin also help beauty products penetrate into your body. And if you’re using the right ones, they’ll work a lot faster and absorb quicker. I’ve tried plenty of body scrubs (you should see my beauty closet), but this one in particular is fresh, natural, and good for the skin. From my own personal experience, it’s not a long term solution to diminishing my cellulite, but it can certainly make it less noticeable for about 1 full day. I like to apply it in the morning while I shower if I know that I’ll be wearing shorts, skirts, dresses or a bathing suit.

Why are these ingredients important?

- Caffeine is a natural antioxidant so it will help with the circulation of the blood flow that can temporarily make the skin firm and supple. This can will help lessen the appearance of cellulite.

- Brown sugar will act as a gentle exfoliator due to its small grains.

- Olive oil will replenish the skin with moisture. This ingredient is very important because when you exfoliate, you’re eliminating the natural oils your body produces that keeps the epidermis healthy and young. It will also create a protective barrier between your skin and harmful pollutants.

What you’ll need:

• 2 cups of ground coffee

• 1 cup of brown sugar

• 3 tbsp. of olive oil

Let's get started!

Step 1: Place the two cups of ground coffee in a mixing bowl and mix with one cup of brown sugar.

Step 2: Add the olive oil and mix well.

Step 3: Jump in the shower and gently apply the scrub all over your body. Massage the scrub onto the skin in a circular motion to lift away the dead skin cells and activate the caffeine.

Step 4: Rinse the scrub off of your body with warm water. Dry the skin giving a small pat with a towel, finally apply your favorite body lotion.
