At the time I’m writing this, it’s been a little over 3 months since I last sat down to film a YouTube video. The reason is, earlier this year, I made the executive decision to close my old YouTube channel that has more than 2,15 million subscribers. It may sound surprising, but I honestly felt it was time for me to let go of my career in the beauty industry and head towards a new and more fulfilling path. That path for me is what some of you may now know as Sweet Soul, my new lifestyle brand that promotes self-awareness and self-love.
Sweet Soul has its own YouTube channel and now has a series called Hola, Dulce! where I answer all of your questions that center around becoming the best version of yourself. In this first episode, I’m responding to Sonia, one of my dear followers who asked me “How to build self-confidence when trying things out of your comfort zone, like a career change.” Here are my top 5 tips:
Look at what you’ve already achieved
The reason why it is so important to look back at your past accomplishments and acknowledge them is that we can get so caught up with pursuing the new goals that we’ve set ourselves that we never really take the time to reflect on all the things that we’ve achieved and overcome, nor do we take the time to enjoy how far we’ve made it in this journey called life.
An exercise that I’d like you to do is to make a timeline inside one of your journals of all the major events that have taken place in your life since about the age of 7. I insist on the necessity of this exercise because, to me, self-confidence comes from recognizing every single thing that you’ve been through since you were a little girl and the fact that you’re still standing today—because you’re badass like that!
Develop and commit to a daily spiritual practice
It’s so easy to let ourselves be consumed by the outside world, and therefore allow its toxicity to affect us and influence the decisions that we make. Developing and committing to a daily spiritual practice will help you stay on the right path and keep the vision that you have for yourself at the forefront of your mind. In other words, it’ll help you to keep navigating life as your true, authentic self.
A spiritual practice can be pretty much anything that puts you in the Zone and makes you feel connected to your soul. Whether it’s praying, meditating, journaling, working out…all modalities are good as long as they allow you to tune into yourself while keeping your attention off distractions.
In this video, I give you more tips on how to build your self-confidence and switch careers at any age.
Chicas, how have you built your self-confidence? What advice would you give women going through big changes in their lives?
